It’s been a rough and tumble week of sleepless nights and deadlines for submitting written work and code. The weather has been schizophrenic at best and dismal at worst. Saying that I have been under the weather, therefore, is befitting. *cough*
I nursed myself back to temporary health as best I could for last night’s endeavour out to Hed Kandi, using a vile mix of herbs and hot tea. I trudged out in impractical footwear and a loud hat to Ginger62 to immerse myself into the night.
Once again, Ginger62 was decorated in high-flying Kandi symbolism and I’d like to give a shout out to DJ Kraig for a phenominal opening set!
Hed Kandi resident Andy Warburton began his set at about 0030 and did some things to tracks that seemed unfathomable at first, but lent themselves to a remarkably sprightly beat and dance floor attitude. It was a great set that put a smile on my face for the duration of the show. Andy, if you’re reading this, thank you for saying hello!
I am glad that a remarkably large number of people managed to attend. I hope everyone had a blast, and if this is your first foray into Hed Kandi or Ginger62, I hope you’re comfortable. You are going to be here for a long time. =)
Special thanks to all the people at Ginger62 who made my night so much more memorable. Y’all know who you are, and your hospitality outdid itself. I am deeply grateful and humbled.
I have learnt one thing though, and it is a bit of a sobering thought…UFC and my moonlight endeavours should not mix, as much as possible. While I enjoy watching the occasional UFC fight in the comforts of my own home, or perhaps in a small social group at a sports bar on the town, I find that a lot of pent up aggression from the UFC event leaves with a majority of the spectators. Last night UFC was a live event in town, which provided a classic case of a Colosseum effect. Much of the aggression stumbled around town, and unfortunately trickled into Hed Kandi. While the effects were minimal and isolated, it was still difficult to remain mindful of that while still trying to exert maximum enjoyment on the music.
The chances of these two events colliding again are slim, but I must still remain mindful of this fact. Yet, till the end, and even today, the only event playing back in my head is the head-bopping of hundreds as they were enveloped by what I truly think is the world’s most glamorous EDM brand.
